Strawberry Planting Guide

Planting

They prefer a location with slightly acidic soil with a pH between 5.5-6.5, full sun at least 6-8 hours a day and well-drained soil. There are two recommended planting methods including matted-row (best for June-bearing strawberries) and hill (best for everbearing strawberries).

Fertilizing

In general, fertilizing needs depend on the variety. For June-bearing varieties, consider fertilizing after the last harvest, around late summer/early fall. For everbearing varieties, consider fertilizing in the spring and then around every 4-6 weeks during the growing season.

Pruning

Pruning requirement may differ depending on the specific variety. In general, early spring before growth starts is a good time to prune most varieties. For June-bearing varieties, consider pruning after the harvest. For everbearing varieties, you may consider pruning throughout the growing season.

Pollination

Strawberries are self-pollinating so they do not require another strawberry plant. Strawberries benefit from pollinators, such as bees.
